State-of-the-art – Detroit Science Center shows FAStplant®
Continuing a 100-year commitment to excellence in manufacturing and education, Dürr Systems, Inc. is proud to join the Detroit Science Center in launching the museum’s new Vehicle Systems Laboratory with a display that includes Dürr’s FAStplant® modular system.
The Vehicle Systems Laboratory will be a dramatic exhibit area in the heart of the Science Center’s main level. It will feature hands-on, interactive exhibits and will be designed with a modern factory look that includes an industrial second floor catwalk that rings the entire area. At the heart of the Vehicle Systems Laboratory is the Automotive Assembly Exhibit from Dürr. This showcase of state-of-the-art technology and engineering simulates the most important area of the final assembly area that brings together the powertrain and the car body. The exhibit will feature three elements of an innovative and efficient assembly system, and how they answer the needs of an ever changing global world.
FAStplant® is a flexible and modular system that enables savings in time and money for building up or rebuilding final assembly lines. This system consists of independent, self-supporting modules each representing one step of the assembly process. These modules can be combined as an assembly line in any plant.
Twin Trolley System and the Vertical Adjusting Carrier is an additional highlight to this exhibit. This transport and hanger system carries the car bodies throughout the assembly process. Visitors to the Vehicle Systems Laboratory will be able to see the Vertical Adjusting Carrier being lowered and raised to show how the body of a car and the powertrain can come together, in speeds up to 18 feet per minute!
FASmatic® is the Automatic Guided Vehicle that will amaze visitors by illustrating how a vehicle “drives” the sub-assembly powertrain components to the next stage of assembly – without a driver! A wire-less, non-contact guidance and power supply system FASmotion allows manufacturers flexibility and longevity of their facility’s life-cycle.
Dürr Systems, Inc. is proud to continue it’s commitment to the Detroit area and to promote engineering and science education. Since 1999, Dürr has provided internships for local high school students and sponsorship programs for high school graduates. In 2003, Dürr was awarded the Friend of Education Award. Given to citizens or organizations whose main industry is not education, but whose contributions to education are significant and enduring.
