Dürr FAS to build new assembly line for DPCA in China

01/28/2008

Stuttgart, January 28, 2007 – Dürr Factory Assembly Systems (FAS) has received a turnkey contract from Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile Company Ltd. (DPCA) for a new assembly line. For this facility at its Wuhan (China) factory DPCA has once again chosen technology from Dürr FAS.

The new plant has been designed for a capacity of 44 units per hour and incorporates all assembly conveyor elements including transfer from the paint shop. In detail the turnkey job centers on a chassis line drawing on the proven reliability of power and free conveyor technology, skillets for the trim line and a dual strand slat conveyor for the final assembly line. A complete water test booth with a slat conveyor, power and free conveyors for door and equipment module assembly, roller conveyors for motor-subassembly lines as well as electric monorail systems for the loading of pallets prior to the marriage procedure are all covered by the concept.

Dürr installed the first assembly line at Wuhan in Hubei province in 2006 and 2007. With the second line DPCA will now profit from the benefits of proven technology and the experience of already having cooperated with a known and trusted project team from Dürr.

Four vehicle types based on two different platforms will be manufactured on the new line from April 2009 onwards. It is expected that production on the new line then will be just as smooth as it is now with the existing plant.

The project includes one special aspect - the supply of four modules from the innovative FAStplant® range. This modular system is quite independent of the building in which it is installed and each module is a self-contained unit. The modules are made up of self-supporting structural steelwork and mechanical and electrical elements for the overhead conveyor technology – in this case a Twin Trolley System® (TTS). Utilities, like compressed air, lighting and energy supply, are completely integrated in the modules. In addition it is also possible to suspend the handling equipment required for each operational cycle throughout. The system is flexible and can be extended or relocated without difficulty and will be used by DPCA for training purposes. It will allow DPCA to try out production processes on a “close to reality” basis and to train employees to carry them out.
