Dürr FAS receives new final assembly order from Russia

Stuttgart, January 25, 2007 – Dürr Factory Assembly Systems (FAS) is becoming more and more established as an equipment provider to the Russian final assembly market. This was most recently underlined by an order placed by SeverStal Auto for the supply of a complete final assembly line for the company’s Elabuga factory. The most important feature of the new line is FAStplant(R), the modular assembly system that reduces installation time and increases flexibility.
SeverStal Auto – one of the major Russian auto producers – manufactures not only vehicles but also 300,000 gasoline engines annually. In future, Fiat models will also be produced at the Elabuga factory under the terms of a license agreement concluded with this Italian vehicle manufacturer. The Fiat Ducato will be the first of these models and the final assembly line foreseen for it will be supplied as a turnkey plant by Dürr FAS. This project stands out because 70% of the scope of supply is covered by Dürr’s own product portfolio.
The conveyor systems to be supplied by Dürr FAS will include proven skid conveyors as well as a new type of modular chain conveyor and, above all, 30 modules from the FAStplant(R) range of flexible, modular assembly systems. These pre-assembled and pre-tested modules reduce both the planning work and installation time required. In addition the modular design of FAStplant(R) assures enormous flexibility in the event of changes in assembly line arrangements or integration of additional vehicle models.
The core task of assembly, the marriage of vehicle chassis and body will also be carried out within the FAStplant(R) section of the line. In addition windshield and window gluing equipment, filling systems and a range of test stands, including those for wheel alignment, electronics checks and leak tests, are all part of the equipment that will be supplied by Dürr Factory Assembly Systems.
The plant, which will operate with 98% availability and produce 15 vehicles per hour, will go into production in October 2007.
