Almost a half century for Dürr in India
India is an attractive production location for both domestic and foreign auto manufacturers: poised to become one of the largest markets in itself, India is also proving an excellent base for export business – overseas and to the Central and East Asian economic regions. In the nineteen fifties Dürr realized completion of its first order in India. Today almost 300 people are employed there.
Dürr’s activities in India began when the company built a galvanizing line for Tata at Jamshedpur. Today – almost fifty years later – all Dürr business units are active there and offer high quality balancing and diagnostic machines, application, paint and assembly systems as well as environmental systems and industrial cleaning, filtration and automation solutions. Like the OEMs themselves, Dürr has expanded its capacities on the sub-continent with a view not only to serving the local market but also to making itself available to customers outside India as an Engineering and Service Center with international know-how and local experience.
The needs of local and international OEMs are often very different. Dürr supplies system solutions to suit the requirements of customers operating in a very wide range of vehicle segments extending from the Tata Nano via the Dacia Logan and on to the BMW 3 and 5 series models. Increasingly - and as a response to the call for “low cost technology for low cost vehicles” - specially developed LeanLine concepts and products are being utilized that combine reliable basic standards of quality with sensible cost savings. Examples include the paint shop Dürr is building for the Tata Nano, Dürr’s FAStplant® modular final assembly systems at BMW in Chennai and recent orders for projects at Mahindra & Mahindra.
“The customer is always right” is the maxim when it comes to cleaning technology, too. Whether a standard installation is required or an individually developed solution – Dürr Ecoclean offers parts cleaning plants and machines for all processes – using aqueous media, halogenated or non-halogenated hydrocarbons or polar solvents. As a result Dürr is able to meet all the needs of OEMs and their suppliers in India as well.
Schenck RoTec regards itself as the market leader for balancing and diagnostic technology also in India, where more than 200 made-in-India machines are in operation for customers, including Tata, Maruti Suzuki and Bharat Forge.
