Stable upward trend at Dürr again in the third quarter of 1997

In the third quarter of 1997, the Dürr group continued its stable upward trend as the world's leading supplier of paint finishing systems for the automobile industry.

Consolidated sales rose in the period ending September 30, 1997 by 18 % compared with the year-earlier amount to DM 1.020 billion (1996: DM 863 million). Incoming orders stood at DM 1.690 billion at the end of the third quarter, which is 14 % more than last year (DM 1.480 billion).

Order backlogs also grew significantly with a plus of 14.1 % to DM 2.095 billion (1996: DM 1.836 billion).

Earnings before taxes increased by 38 % to DM 27 million (1996: DM 19.5 million).

Outlook

Dürr AG's Board of Management takes a confident view of business development in the remainder of 1997. Consolidated sales will come to about DM 1.8 billion for the year. Incoming orders will reach a record high of nearly DM 2 billion.

Conditions shaping demand for paint finishing systems used in the automobile industry are currently positive in almost all sales regions.

The Dürr Ecoclean group, which occupies a leading position worldwide in the industrial cleaning systems sector, is developing very well. Sales, incoming orders, and earnings at the end of 1997 will be considerably above last year's figures.

Thanks to the good order situation worldwide, utilization of Dürr AG's capacities is assured well into 1998.

Earnings will improve substantially in comparison with last year (DM 36.2 million). The turnaround achieved by the group's Brazilian subsidiary will also contribute to this.
