Dürr AG receives major contract for new paint shop

Dürr AG, Stuttgart, has received a contract through its Paint Systems business unit from Volkswagen Slovakia AS totaling about EUR 56 m to supply a paint shop for the VW plant in Bratislava.

The contract encompasses concept planning, construction and installation of an additional painting line at this plant site, also including the control and automation systems. Apart from body painting facilities, the project also includes an innovative painting concept for plastic add-on components with robot application systems developed by Dürr together with VW. Commissioning is planned to take place as early as April 2001. The output rate of the paint shop, which is one of the most productive facilities in the VW Group, will total about 1,050 bodies per day after the extension. Dürr had already supplied the paint shop for the first construction stage to the Slovakian VW plant in Bratislava last year.

The Dürr Paint Systems business unit installs turnkey paint systems and is experiencing buoyant demand for efficient, environmentally safe solutions. With incoming orders totaling EUR 436 m in the first six months of the year 2000, the business unit achieved a double-digit increase compared to the previous year. Dürr is anticipating the good project situation to continue, and is expecting further major contracts from European and American car manufacturers in the further course of the financial year.
