(Ad-hoc) Preliminary figures for the fiscal year 2001 - Growth in a difficult business environment
03/04/2002 - Dürr AG - WKN 556520 / ISIN DE0005565204
n spite of the downward trend in the global economy and in automotive business, which continued at an even faster pace in the fourth quarter, and despite a decline in earnings in individual companies, the Dürr Group has been able to slightly improve its major key figures in fiscal 2001 com-pared to the previous year. Sales rose by a good 7 % to 2,197 million euros (pre-vious year 2,042). Incoming orders were up by about 5 % to 2,063 million euros (previous year 1,970), orders on hand increased by 8 % to 1,195 million euros (previous year 1,106).
The Paint Systems, Automotion, Ecoclean and Services business units showed a positive development, whereas Environmental and the US-American and some German Schenck companies were affected more strongly in the last months of 2001 by a further decline in market volume and by tough price competition in in-dustrial branches exposed to cyclical fluctuations. Carl Schenck AG missed the targets set for earnings by several marks. In spite of this, earnings of the Dürr Group have reached the same level as in the previous year, thanks to the positive development in the business units mentioned above.
For 2002 Dürr is expecting the economic development to continue at a modest pace, in particular in the first half of the year. Dürr is strengthening its market and technological position in all areas. Streamlining of the business units, and the measures for improving competitive edge throughout the Group - for example by means of a restructurization program in some US-American and German Schenck companies - will be implemented consistently. As a result, Dürr can benefit above average from an economic revival.
Dürr will present the final and detailed figures of the past fiscal year 2001 at the financial press conference on April 23, 2002 in Stuttgart.
