Dürr receives orders from DaimlerChrysler

07/15/2004

The Dürr Group has received two orders from DaimlerChrysler worth a total of Euro 87 million. Acting as general contractor, its Paint Systems business unit is to supply the paint shops for a new van model at the automaker's plants in Ludwigsfelde and Düsseldorf.

In Ludwigsfelde, Dürr is going to build a complete paint shop in which several tens of thousands of flatbed trucks will be painted annually beginning in 2005/2006. For pre-treatment and dip-painting, the company will supply the innovative RoDip rotational painting process, which offers a high degree of flexibility. Robots will perform the exterior painting fully automatically in the primer and top-coat line. The scope of the order includes not only the complete plant and application systems, but also the conveyor and control systems.

The panel truck version of the new van will be painted at the Düsseldorf plant from August 2005 onward. For that purpose, Dürr is going to build an additional top-coat line designed to handle ten vehicles per hour. While side and ceiling machines will perform the exterior painting, flexible robots especially adjusted to vehicle length and geometry will be used for the interior painting. Dürr is also supplying the entire control, supervisory control, and conveyor technology.

In the words of Dr. Reinhold Grau, the member of Dürr AG's Board of Management responsible for Paint Systems: "Dürr has the competence on the basis of its modular product range to develop flexible solutions that are precisely geared to the customer's production goal. That was crucial in winning the DaimlerChrysler contract."

The Dürr Group is one of the world's leading suppliers of production systems and manufacturing support services for the automotive industry. In 2003, Dürr achieved sales of about Euro 2.3 billion with about 12,750 employees.
