  • Complete final assembly facility worth over Euro 40 million
  • Second major order from KIA in Zilina

Dürr has received another large order from Korean automobile manufacturer KIA Motors at its new plant in Zilina, Slovakia. After giving Dürr the nod in December to build the paint shop, KIA has now awarded Dürr the contract for a turnkey final assembly facility worth more than Euro 40 million. Both orders will be handled by the Paint and Assembly Systems division acting as general contractor.

"The double success in Zilina shows that Dürr is among the automobile industry's most efficient partners in both paint and final assembly systems. Eastern Europe and Asia are the group¥s fastest growing markets. With our regional competence and our worldwide network, we are well prepared to support our customers to expand their business," says Stephan Rojahn, Chairman of Dürr AG's Board of Management.

Dürr's wide range of state-of-the-art solutions in the area of assembly and conveyor systems decisively contributed to its winning the contract for a final assembly facility. Among other things, the new FASmatic conveyor system, which permits more flexibility in the automated joining of drive train and car body, will be used at the Zilina plant. The FASmatic and other parts of the conveyor technology feature the MOVITRANS contactless energy and data transfer system. The advantages of that are high availability and minimal maintenance cost. Production is scheduled to begin in the new final assembly facility in December 2006.

As of March 1, Dürr has realigned its group structure. From that time forward, it is doing business in two divisions, Paint and Assembly Systems and Measuring and Process Systems (continuing operations).

For 2004, Dürr has reported preliminary group earnings before taxes of Euro 11.8 million according to IFRS. In continuing operations, preliminary earnings before taxes amounted to Euro 18.6 million. In discontinued operations (Services and DTS), the result was negative in the amount of Euro 6.8 million. Dürr will release the complete figures for 2004 next Thursday (April 21, 2005).

The Dürr Group is one of the world's leading suppliers of production systems and of modules and components in the area of measurement and process technology. The company focuses primarily on the automobile and aviation industries as well as the mining and basic materials industries.
