Dürr supplies new FAStplant® final assembly system to Audi
12/07/2005
The Dürr Group has received a strategically important order from Audi. The Ingolstadt-based premium automaker is going to use Dürr's innovative FAStplant® final assembly concept in the production of its new Le Mans sports car.
Dürr intends to install FAStplant® in Audi’s Neckarsulm plant, where the Le Mans is to be produced from the second quarter of 2006 onward. According to Ralf Dieter, Dürr AG's CEO-designate, "FAStplant® offers our customers maximum efficiency and flexibility in final assembly. The order from Audi gives us an importance reference for future marketing of the system in mass production."
FAStplant® consists of preassembled conveyor modules that can be placed wherever desired and joined together to form an assembly line in just a few days. The modules contain all the interfaces for connection with assembly and test devices. Thanks to the modular design of FAStplant®, existing lines can easily be converted to new vehicle models as well as expanded, divided, and shortened. FAStplant® significantly reduces the time needed for planning and setting up assembly lines. Compared with conventional plants, up to twelve weeks can be saved in that way. DaimlerChrysler and Toyota are already using FAStplant®.
The Dürr Group is one of the world's leading suppliers of products, systems, and services for automobile manufacturing.
