Dürr FAS receives VW Group Award 2006

Stuttgart, July 13, 2006 – On June 29 Dürr Factory Assembly Systems (FAS) received – as one of only 24 suppliers to do so – the Volkswagen Group Award 2006.

Dürr FAS received the award in the “Entrepreneurial Performance� category. Here Volkswagen looks at flexibility during new start-ups and innovation capabilities in terms of cost optimization and process improvements.

In the eyes of VW Dürr Factory Assembly Systems met these criteria very convincingly in the supply of a turnkey plant for final assembly of Passat B6 models at the Mosel factory. Expansion of the existing Golf line, also supplied by Dürr, to enable a mix of Passat and Golf models to be handled also formed part of the project that has been awarded. Dürr took VW’s maxim of “turning interfaces into invisible seams� to heart in an exemplary way.

Ralf Dieter, Chairman of the Dürr Board accepted the Award personally from VW Chairman Bernd Pischetsrieder at the presentation ceremony held at Hannover. The company was praised in particular for its outstanding management of the project that focused on the nomination of a central contact person for each production area. Volkswagen also highlighted the high level of transparency and procedural quality as well as the spirit of co-operation that characterized their partnership with Dürr.

All FAS locations in Germany share the credit for receiving this badge of approval. Dürr Systems Stuttgart supplied all the conveyor equipment, including FASmatic® AGVs combined with FASmotion inductive power and data transfer. Dürr Assembly Products in Püttlingen was responsible for process equipment relating to chassis integration and an innovative method of wheel alignment carried out whilst the body is suspended from its hanger. Trim handling and fitting equipment and the most up-to-date filling systems for brake, radiator, air conditioning and gearbox fluids as well as for fuel were supplied by Dürr Somac Stollberg.
