Dürr receives further order from Volvo Umea (Sweden) - Low temperature drying process to be used for the first time worldwide in mass production of vehicle bodies com-plete with exterior trim.
02/07/2006
Stuttgart, February 7, 2006 – Dürr has received from Swedish truck manufacturer Volvo an order for the supply of three top coat lines for its Umea facility in Swe-den. The new order was placed by Volvo following the successful commissioning of a Dürr primer line in 2005.
This low temperature drying process for the two component, water based paint is the outstanding feature of the paint line. As the first company worldwide, Volvo will use this drying process for its FH series truck cabs. The process, which resulted from development work undertaken in partnership by Dürr and paint manufacturers BASF and DuPont, makes it possible to paint and dry plastic and metal components at the same time at a drying temperature of only 80ºC.
Volvo will also benefit with the new top coat lines from an increase in capacity raising it to 80,000 units per annum. The plant also makes it possible to apply unlimited top coat colors with maximum paint efficiency and minimum energy consumption.
Dürr is supplying the whole paint system including robots for interior and exterior painting as well as heat recovery and solvent concentration systems. The RTO (RTO = recuperative thermal oxidation) process will be used to purify exhaust air from ovens and booths.
Dürr is incorporating a heat exchanger with a closed loop water/glycol system to recover heating energy from booth exhaust air. This unit offers particularly effective high performance in the climatic conditions of northern Sweden.
The Dürr Group is one of the world's leading suppliers of products, systems, and services for automobile manufacturing. Its range of products and services covers important stages of vehicle production. As a systems supplier, Dürr plans and builds complete paint shops and final assembly facilities.
