Renewable Fuel Paint Shop Dürr Systems, Inc. earns Honorable Mention at PACE Award competition

Stuttgart, November 9, 2006 – The Dürr Group’s US company, Dürr Systems, Inc. received an Honorable Mention in this year’s Automotive News PACE Award competition. The company that is headquartered in Plymouth, Michigan was the only company to receive an Honorable Mention in the Manufacturing Process and Capital Equipment category.
Dürr Systems, Inc. was recognized for the development of paint shop equipment fuelled by renewable energy resources that was introduced for the first time at BMW Manufacturing Co. in Spartanburg, S.C. The Dürr innovation uses methane gas collected from solid biodegradable municipal waste as an alternative fuel to natural gas.
This innovative process is part of a landmark project to use renewable fuels at the Spartanburg facility. “BMW Manufacturing appreciates Dürr’s efforts to help us enhance the preservation of the environment and increase the sustainability of our business. The prestigious PACE (Premier Automotive Suppliers’ Contribution to Excellence) Award is presented jointly by the trade journal Automotive News, Microsoft, SAP and the Transportation Research Center Inc. It represents recognition of the superior innovation, technological advancement and business performance shown by suppliers, equipment providers and service partners of the automotive industry.
