Record-Breaking Conversion at GM DAT in Korea

12/01/2006

  • One primer line and two top coat lines in Changwon, Korea
  • Assembly, commissioning and production start within few days
  • Several millions of Euro saving through lower paint consumption

Bietigheim-Bissingen, November 29, 2006 - After a record-breakingly short conversion time, the GM DAT Changwon factory could resume their production as planned on August 10th. In only 10 days, Dürr had installed, mounted, taught and tested 21 robots for one primer and mounted to two top coat lines during the works vacation. Already five days after production start, the coating stations reached their full capacity again. If one adds the time that was required for preparatory works, the dismantling of old painting machines and booth modifications, the entire conversion took only three weeks. Thus, the narrow time schedule was exactly adhered to.

In the primer line, six robots of the model EcoRP6 F140 for exterior painting with exterior charging are used, another two robots of the model EcoRP7 F140 take over the inside painting with air atomizers, an EcoOpener opens and closes the hood. Six EcoRP6 F140 robots each work in the two top coat lines. The base coat is applied with the paint-saving bell/bell procedure with the atomizer EcoBell2 M.

In Changwon, Dürr teams from Korea and Germany worked together perfectly. The German team took over construction site management and commissioning, installation and customer training were in Korean hand. On October 18th, Dürr received the acceptance from a satisfied customer. The paint savings due to the full automation with robots amount to several millions of Euros per year.
