    Heat storage shut down mode

The economic turndown has affected production rates at many facilities, causing regenerative thermal oxidizers (RTOs) to be operated in set-back or idle mode. Set-back mode may give the plant a false sense of energy savings because combustion temperatures are typically turned down and flow rate through the equipment is typically scaled back to 25% of capacity. Although set-back mode is an improvement from production mode it is not the ideal energy savings approach since there remains considerable burner and electrical demand.

Dürr can optimize your off-production RTO mode significantly with HEAT STORAGE SHUTDOWN (HSS).

The HSS mode enables the RTO fan and burner to be shut down while the unit stores its remaining heat energy in the combustion chamber and retains an elevated temperature from which to return to production ready status. Depending upon the amount of time the unit is off-line, the combustion temperature only diminishes 300-600°F below set-point so the RTO can rapidly be returned to production ready temperatures.

The HSS mode installation return on investment from energy savings can be had in as little as 3 months!
