Dürr Cyplan is a pioneer in the area of ORC technology in Germany. ORC stands for Organic Rankine Cycle - a method that uses waste heat to generate electricity by means of an evaporation process. The technology has high potential:

• Different kinds of organic working fluids can be used for the evaporation process - depending on the temperature level of the waste heat.
• ORC systems operate at lower waste heat temperatures than steam turbines.
• The ORC technology is therefore particularly suitable for decentralized energy generation in smaller power ranges (up to 2 MWe)
• ORC systems are marked out by their simple design and small footprint.
• As a result, they can be incorporated later to optimize the energy balance of existing equipment.

Major fields of application are, for example, biogas systems or cogeneration (CHP) units. ORC systems use the waste heat from combustion engines and in this way boost the overall efficiency of power plants. Of course other stationary combustion engines in different areas of application can be retrofitted with ORC equipment too.

Waste heat generated in industrial processes can also be used for electric power generation with the aid of ORC systems. One example for this are thermal oxidizers for air pollution control, where a combustion of pollutants takes place at high temperatures. Dürr is one of the leading suppliers of thermal oxidizers for air pollution control in the world. In future we will equip our pollution control systems with ORC technology - and thus increase the energy efficiency of our customers' machinery and equipment.
