Dürr receive major contract for complete final assembly line from Opel

Sharing success with Carl Schenck AG
Dürr AG, Stuttgart, received a major contract worth DM 150 million from Adam Opel AG, Rüsselsheim, for the supply of a turnkey final assembly line including diagnostic and test systems for the assembly of Vectra and Omega models at Opel's Rüsselsheim site.
The final assembly line will start to operate at the beginning of 2002. It is the first major contract Dürr and Carl Schenck AG, Darmstadt, have been able to win since Dürr gained a majority holding in Schenck at the beginning of April 2000. The product and service programs jointly offered by the two companies to design, engineer and implement final assembly turnkey systems complement each other perfectly and make Dürr/Schenck one of the worldleading bidders with regard to this value-adding step in the automobile production.
The scope of supply comprises a complete final assembly system including door and dashboard assembly. Essential components are conveyors, process equipment, installations and related equipment. Besides pretrim zones including cavity wax application, as well as trim zones and chassis lines, there are other parts of the contract such as final lines, end of lines including diagnostic and test systems, water test, spot repair and transport preservation. The scope of supply also includes all the control and automation equipment for the system components.
The new final assembly line is part of a comprehensive investment program launched by Adam Opel AG at their Rüsselsheim site. The investment program is intended to fully modernize the production processes in this factory. Having completed the program, Rüsselsheim will be one of the most modern and efficient production sites of the worldwide General Motors alliance network.
The contract was awarded to Dürr Systems GmbH. It will be handled in conjunction with Schenck Pegasus GmbH.
