Dürr wins 200 m DM VW-contract for new paint shop in Poland

Dürr Systems GmbH, a subsidiary of Dürr AG, Stuttgart, has received an order totaling about 200 m DM from Volkswagen AG for the construction of a new paint shop at the Polish VW plant in Poznan as General Contractor.

The new paint shop, in which VW cars and commercial vehicles will be painted according to global VW quality standards, is part of an extension program of the existing assembly capacities to increase the vertical depth of production and to allow processing of metallic colors. Start of production is planned for early 2001.

The painting system encompasses all process stages such as pretreatment, cathodic dip coating, primer and top coat line, conveyor systems and also equipment for underbody sealer application, cavity preservation and material supply. Spray booths and work places are designed under a cleanroom concept. The paint shop is equipped with heat recovery systems to save energy.

With preliminary group sales totaling about EUR 1,179 m and with 7,227 employees, Dürr is one of the leading suppliers of production systems for the automotive industries worldwide. Thanks to several strategic acquisitions, Dürr extended its portfolio of products and services last year into the area of systems for final vehicle assembly, in component manufacture and in technical services.

Final figures for the business year 1999 will be announced at the financial press conference on April 17.
