Dürr to supply turnkey final assembly system to Magna-Steyr

04/16/2002

  • Total order value exceeds 28 million euros
  • High productivity and flexibility levels
  • Single supplier approach to planning and execution

The Dürr Technology Group's Final Assembly Systems business unit has received an order worth around 28 million euros and covering the construction of a turnkey final assembly line from Magna Steyr Fahrzeug-technik (SFT) of Graz.

Magna-Steyr assembles a variety of vehicles in Graz mainly, at present, for the DaimlerChrysler Group. The new final assembly line is designed for a daily capacity of up to 300 vehicles. Dürr, in the role of General Contractor, will be responsible for full execution of the contract, which covers all assembly and conveyor systems and includes end-of-line filling, final adjustment and test equipment.

SFT first placed a planning contract with Dürr Group company, DSEngineering, and practised joint simultaneous engineering, as the vehicle assembler wished to ensure, right from the concept stage, that the line would be capable of fulfilling the exacting productivity and flexibility targets envisaged.

The Dürr Final Assembly Systems business unit supplies turnkey solutions for final assembly. Its products and services range from the planning of optimised assembly facilities to the supply of equipment for all assembly stages as well as a comprehensive range of systems to test, for example, brakes, chassis and sensory equipment within completed vehicles
