Dürr receives large paint systems order

11/11/2003

Through its Paint Systems business unit, the Dürr Technology Group has received a large order from the BMW Group worth about Euro 38 million.

At the BMW plant in Regensburg, Dürr will build two additional robot painting lines for primer and top coat application by the end of 2004. The fully automatic systems will be set up for interior and exterior painting of the BMW 3 Series as well as future models and will allow the use of environmentally friendly powder clear coat. In addition to painting robots, material feed equipment, and spray booths, the range of products that Dürr will provide also includes conveyor technology and car body drying ovens as well as equipment for heat recovery and powder clear coat recycling. Moreover, Dürr is coordinating execution of the electrical engineering for the BMW Group.

This new order represents continuing cooperation between the BMW Group and Dürr in the area of robot painting systems. In the past two years, Dürr has already received orders from the BMW Group for the construction of several robot painting lines at various locations. Because of their advantages in regard to efficiency, flexibility, and quality, painting robots are increasingly replacing conventional painting machines in the automotive industry.

The Dürr Technology Group is one of the world's leading suppliers of production systems and manufacturing support services for automobile manufacturers and suppliers. With a workforce of about 13,000 employees, it achieved sales of nearly Euro 2.1 billion and operating income (EBITDA) of Euro 89.1 million in 2002. On November 13, Dürr will publish its figures for the first nine months of 2003.
