Bietigheim-Bissingen, March 15th, 2017 – Dürr will be presenting its entire range of thermal exhaust air purification and external heat recovery systems at the International Converting Exhibition (ICE), March 21-23, 2017 in Munich.

Two brands, Dürr and LTB (Luft- und Thermotechnik Bayreuth GmbH), will be appearing together for the first time. Both are part of the Dürr Group, along with KBA-CleanAir. With the takeover of the KBA-CleanAir division of the Koenig & Bauer Group at the end of 2016, the Dürr Group completed its technology portfolio. The activities of KBA-CleanAir will be fully merged into the Dürr brand in the near future. The Dürr Group offers customized, economical exhaust air purification solutions for all requirements in the printing and finishing industry under the LTB and Dürr brands.

When investing in a legally required exhaust air purification technology, it is not only the investment costs, but above all else, the actual operating and maintenance costs that are crucial. Dürr considers itself a leading partner in the coating and printing industry with its complete range of exhaust air purification and energy recovery technologies.

At ICE, Dürr will be presenting information about recent developments in systems for purifying contaminated exhaust air. When combined with a Dürr heat recovery system, these solutions provide a way of returning energy to the process as heat, cooling energy or power that previously was unused.

Thermal exhaust air purification systems remove hydrocarbons, especially solvents, VOCs, odors, and plasticizers from the exhaust air in order to ensure that the official emission limits are safely adhered to. Exhaust air purification systems, based on regenerative thermal oxidation (e.g. RTO), come in different sizes and technical designs.

They differ, for example, in the design of the air distribution systems or the regeneration chambers. Together with LTB, Dürr offers the right exhaust air system for every printing process and can also provide tailored services to address further customer requirements, such as building site organization. For example, pre-assembled RTO systems from LTB are ideal when a short installation time is required, while an alternative, more flexible design allows the customer to involve local service.

Printing processes require hundreds of kilowatts of energy. At the same time, the solvents release a large of amount of energy during the combustion process, which is often lost as exhaust air through the stack. This energy can be recovered using a heat exchanger and directly used for machine heating or building services, such as air conditioning for the plant or supplying hot water. This significantly reduces the primary energy consumption and therefore the energy costs. The combination of a RTO and a heat recovery system transforms an exhaust air purification system into an energy supply for a more economical printing process. Dürr and LTB’s wide product range and the knowledge of their experts guarantees the most efficient solution for every application and machine fleet.
