  • Manufacturing execution system EcoEmos by Dürr

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles to use Dürr software across its Wrzesnia Plant

Bietigheim-Bissingen, July 27, 2015 – The EcoEMOS MES/SCADA solution developed by Dürr will control all production activities, from body shop to final assembly, in the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Plant in Wrzesnia, Poland. Since Dürr received the order in 2014 to construct the paint shop, including the EcoEMOS control technology, EcoEMOS has now been rolled out to all areas of the plant, thereby implementing a uniform standard throughout the entire factory. This is one of the largest orders ever placed for Dürr software.

The customer, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, has taken the opportunity of deploying a standardized software concept to control production at its new location. Following the initial decision in favor of EcoEMOS for the painting area and a subsequent evaluation phase, the Dürr solution has now also been selected for the body shop and final assembly areas.

The benefits of a standardized control architecture are obvious. The many years of experience that Dürr has in plant engineering are continually applied to the design and enhancement of the EcoEMOS functionality. Central administration and maintenance of the software, coupled with comprehensive service were additional strong arguments. Furthermore, some of the software tasks at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles previously handled by proprietary software will now be covered centrally by EcoEMOS, considerably reducing maintenance effort.

These tasks include:

  •  Targeted communication of vehicle data to the production plants
  •  Transfer of quality-relevant data to order control
  •  Dual interface to the VW order control system (FIS)
  •  Connection of central plant monitoring to the control technology
  •  Integration of process stock control into the central control level
  •  Uniform coupling of maintenance systems
  •  Material consumption analyses

These functions effectively add to the EcoEMOS product family, making it easier to operate. The new plant in Poland will set new standards, not only in terms of sustainability but also in the increasingly important area of efficient production control.

Production of the successor to the Volkswagen Crafter will begin in Poland in the fall of 2016. With its interdisciplinary approach, the entire project will set a milestone in the development of shop floor IT.
