x-DASalign truck, driver assistance systems of commercial vehicles – Absolute precision

The immense expertise and experience accumulated at Dürr with adjustment products for driver assistance systems in passenger cars is also applied in adjusting those systems in commercial vehicles.

Sensor calibration of driver assistance systems at commercial vehicles

Commercial vehicles have become safer, thanks to a number of driver assistance systems such LDW, ACC, AEBS and LKA.

ACC – Adaptive Cruise Control

The Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) maintains a safety distance, selected by the driver, to the preceding vehicle, taking the speed of both vehicles into account. If no vehicle is detected within the critical distance, the controller accelerates the vehicle to the set speed.

For a correct functioning of the ACC system the beam direction of the sensor must be adjusted with a tolerance of few angular minutes related to the geometric driving axle of the vehicle. This can be achieved by a rotating mirror attached at the Z column which is aligned perpendicular to the driving axle measured in the wheel alignment stand x-wheel truck d.

LDW – Lane Departure Warning

With the Lane Departure Warning (LDW) a camera, which is attached behind the windshield of the vehicle, recognizes if the vehicle leaves the lane and warns the driver with acoustical or haptic warnings. For the perfect adjustment of the Lane Departure Warning a precisely manufactured calibration target will be placed in front of the camera and aligned to the geometric driving axle of the vehicle in accordance with the manufacturer’s specification. For the lighting of this calibration panel as evenly as possible, a specially-designed lighting system is available as option.

Positioning of calibration aids – Solutions at a glance

For process-safe setting with optimized cycle time of the sensors of driver assistance systems at commercial vehicles Dürr offers two solutions:

  • An automatically positioning gantry system with an overhead clearance of 2.2 m for vans and minibuses
  • An automatically positioning, floor-guided system for trucks and buses with an axle load of up to 10 tons

Both solutions for positioning the calibration aids will be integrated in the wheel alignment stands for vans and minibuses x-wheel resp. in the wheel alignment stands for trucks and buses x-wheel truck d. A later retrofit in both test stands is possible, too.

ECU communication

The required communication with the ECUs of the sensors will be executed via the steering wheel balance x-tronic balancer. The Dürr software x-line is used for automation and visualisation of the adjustment.
