Audi Starts New Assembly Hall

Changchun (DK) For an investment volume of about 100 millions Euro, Audi has opened a new assembly hall on the already existing factory premises of FAW VW in Changchun together with the Chinese joint-venture partner FAW.

In the future the Audi A4 long version and also the Q5 will be produced there on a building area of 82 000 square meters. "By this considerable extension of our production capacities we will continue our growth trend and strengthen the part of China as strategically important market", Audi chief executive Rupert Stadler said. The company would like to deliver in China 200 000 cars per year until 2015. "On the way to this destination the expansion of our production capacities is a fundamental milestone", so Stadler.

An Tiecheng, president of FAW-VW, added: "Changchun was actually the first production location for first-class automobiles in China. With the production facility opened today, we are continuing our innovation course and are setting a new standard in the Chinese automobile industry."

The assembly hall has been built in nine months, and after the construction of the pre-series it will be handed over to series production only 14 months after start of assembly. Thanks to the possibility of the virtual planning all details from the building concept up to the conveyor system and the installation engineering could have been designed already in advance and simulated. Thereby, the new assembly will meet the requirements of the Audi production system standardized all over the world.
