general picture solid and liquid combustion

Solid and Liquid Combustion

Manufacturing processes often generate hazardous waste that needs to be treated and removed appropriately. This waste can be in solid or liquid form.

Dürr supplies two different types of systems to meet these specific requirements and guarantee the efficient combustion of solids and liquids. The Dürr Ecopure® SWI is designed for both solids and liquids, while the Ecopure® VAR system removes only liquid residues.

The objective is to produce as little waste as possible in order to reduce the environmental impact of production. However, until now it has not been possible to guarantee this in many manufacturing processes, because large amounts of hazardous waste are often unavoidable.

This includes, for example, hospital waste, such as infectious body parts and organs, and also chemicals and asbestos. The German Technical Instructions on Municipal Waste issued in 2005 state that waste of this kind must not be disposed of without being treated. This means that the waste must first be processed and then disposed of in the form of cinders or ash. This waste material can also be used in road building. The re-use of waste saves resources, which means that the Ecopure® SWI and Ecopure® VAR systems contribute to sustainable development.

Benefits of Combustion

Burning the waste has one benefit. A huge amount of energy is generated during the combustion process, which can be used to power biomass power plants, combined heat and power plants, and production facilities.

Many people might think that the process of burning waste would release harmful exhaust gases into the environment, but this is not the case, because the latest systems are designed to produce no damaging emissions. They also generate no contaminated wastewater.

Another significant benefit of burning the waste is the big reduction in its volume, which means it can be disposed of in a much smaller area. In addition, the combustion process turns hazardous materials into non-hazardous waste which reduces environmental impact and does not put people or animals at risk.
