Oxi.X RA – Regenerative thermal oxidizer

Regenerative thermal oxidation (RTO) is used in many different industry sectors to purify exhaust air containing solvents and odors. This highly efficient regenerative thermal process contributes significantly toward environmental protection. The Oxi.X RA RTO series is especially suited to large exhaust air flow rates, high exhaust air temperatures and very low to high pollutant concentrations. The systems boast optimum energy efficiency and operational safety and reliability.

Oxi.X RA Benefits

  • Low transport costs as system designed to fit in containers
  • Extremely resilient system for high pollutant concentrations and high temperatures, with integrated heat recovery
  • Excellent value for money

Oxi.X RA Operating principle

During regenerative thermal oxidation, the exhaust air contaminated with pollutants is fed through a regenerative heat exchanger with an extremely large surface area. This warms up the exhaust air, which is then very close to the reaction temperature when it leaves the exchanger. The combustion chamber converts all the pollutants into harmless substances by exposing them to a sufficiently high temperature.
The now purified gases are fed through a heat exchanger again where they lose their heat, completing the regenerative circuit. The purified, cooled exhaust air is then released from the system. This highly efficient heat recovery ensures that the temperature difference between the exhaust air inlet and outlet is as little as 30°C–50°C.
Dürr’s Oxi.X RA RTO system features horizontally arranged poppet valves with optional sealing air and is thus very compact and effective. The reliable double hinged dampers are used for particularly high air flow rates, enabling systems of up to 140,000 m³/h to be designed and constructed as a 3-chamber system. An integrated energy management system ensures optimum heat efficiency.

Oxi.X RA Application areas

The Oxi.X RA RTO is suitable for all types of pollutant concentration, from very low to very high. Typical areas of application include:

  • Coating of textiles, film, paper, foil and wood
  • Printing, paper and packaging industries
  • Rotogravure and flexographic printing
  • Offset printing
  • Printing and painting boxes, metal containers and barrels
  • Coil coating
  • Spray booths, for example in the automotive supplier industry

Oxi.X RA Technical specifications

Dürr’s Oxi.X RA RTO air pollution control system can purify air flow rates from 5,000 to 360,000 Nm3/h. It is possible to purify even greater exhaust air flow rates by using multiple units in parallel.
Depending on the solvent, the permissible pollutant concentration input can be up to 10 g/Nm3. If a particular application produces greater concentrations, fresh air or recirculation gas can be added.
The overall thermal efficiency is normally around 95%–97%. For high pollutant concentrations, surplus energy can be recovered through an integrated heat recovery system and supplied to the manufacturing process in the form of steam, thermal oil or hot water at essentially no cost.
